In the Hindu Puranas, an ancient tale, The Churning of the Sea of Milk, elicited a personal meditation on loss, struggle and grace. I translated my meditation through an improvisation of image and language, based upon the bas relief mural of this legend on Angkor Wat’s eastern gallery. Text, drawings and chemise stamping are printed letterpress, typeset in Spectrum by John Balkwill, Lumino Press. Each chemise folder is unique, hand painted with inks, the lid of each box is an original painting of “The Churning Sea,”colophon with a watermark of a dancing apsara, and text by Mary Heebner, translated into French by poet Laure-Anne Bosselaar.
